The Podcast

The podcast conversation in class today was something that I kept thinking about after class. The cyber world and the fact that there really is no privacy. As we continued to breakdown what this computerized world is all about I know everything we do on the computer can be looked at. I think that's the whole point. Big brother is really watching. While we were discussing the fact that companies can look into your email, I thought about a Law and Order episode I saw when the detective was able to pull up the text messages from a phone. Also another episode when they were able to pull up the emails in Dateline. I don't think anything is private. If need be everything that is typed into a computer can be retreived by the government. Nothing is sacred!

I agree. Technology creates so many different and good ways for us to communicate with one another so we interact and exchange our thoughts and ideas, forgetting that we can be easily monitored. I worked for a large credit union for over six years and I remember hearing horror stories about people’s e-mail files getting read by human resources. The small bit of comfort was that you wouldn’t get your e-mails read unless you were a questionable employee, or they wanted dirt on you. It scared me, but then I just convinced myself I would never be one of those employees. It is as if humans try to convince themselves that “it could never happen to them.”

Yes, and if nothing is sacred, then nothing can be owned. Is this a good thing?
